The Mary From Dungloe competition is a celebration of Irish heritage, music, and culture. This year’s competition promises to be particularly exciting, with a talented and diverse group of women set to compete for the coveted title. Each contestant brings her own unique talents and strengths to the competition, from traditional Irish music to modern pop and rock. Beyond their musical abilities, these women are also leaders in their communities, dedicated to promoting Irish culture and supporting charitable causes.

Ellen is 24 years old and is currently completing her PGCE to be a secondary English teacher on the 1st of July.
Ellen has Irish danced since the age of 4 and continued this at university as she took
on the role of President of the dance society. In her spare time you will also find Ellen reading, walking in the country whilst listening to country music or at the theatre.
Ellen is extremely grateful and overwhelmed with excitement to represent
Birmingham in the upcoming 2025 Mary from Dungloe festival. Ellen’s family hail from both the north, Co. Derry, and the south Co. Waterford, with connections in Westmeath and Kildare. Growing up in Birmingham and Coventry, Ellen feels so
lucky to live in a place with such a strong and magical Irish community and cannot wait to experience the community of Dungloe!
I am so looking forward to the festival and meeting you all!

Meet Caragh Ryan, a 31-year-old from Kilmeena, Westport, County Mayo. Originally, she obtained an International Diploma in Beauty Therapy in 2014 and spent several
years working in the beauty industry. However, her true calling always tugged at her heart: a desire to work with children and make a meaningful difference in their lives. At 26, she took a leap, retraining as a Special Needs Assistant and recently earning a Level 7 Certificate in Special Needs Assisting from ATU St. Angela’s,
Sligo.
Caragh plays football with the Junior Ladies team (although she prefers to be on the
side-line), and she has previously contributed her coaching skills to nurture the next generation of footballers through her work with underage teams.
When she’s not on the field or supporting her club, she enjoys learning to play the button accordion – a cherished musical tradition passed down through generations of the Ryan family.
Caragh is honoured and delighted to be selected as the first Connacht Mary for the Mary From Dungloe International Arts Festival and is looking forward to spending time in her second favourite county, Donegal!

Alanna is proud to represent her home county of Donegal in the 2025 Mary from Dungloe International Arts Festival.

Western Australia.
She currently works as a healthcare assistant, supporting adults with intellectual disabilities. Outside of her studies, Alanna has a strong interest in jiving and country music. She is a two-time All-Ireland Jiving Champion, having won titles in 2019 and
2024, and has a total of five local dancing competition wins since 2019.
She is thrilled to take part in this year’s Mary from Dungloe International Arts Festival and is looking forward to what she describes as the experience of a lifetime as the 2025 Donegal Mary.

Kate is incredibly proud and honoured to be representing London in this year’s Mary of Dungloe International Arts Festival. Although born and raised in London, her Irish heritage has always been a huge part of her identity. Her dad is from Tipperary and her mum's family is from Enniskillen, so she’s grown up surrounded by Irish music, culture, and values.
Her aunt actually lives in Falcarragh and my uncle is even flying over from New York to join the family, which makes it all the more special!
She cannot wait to experience everything the festival has to offer, meet the other Marys, and represent the London Irish community with pride. Thank you to everyone who has supported her on this journey—see you in Dungloe!

Representing New York, Tara is a 23-year-old proud Yonkers native, currently pursuing an Associate's degree in Business Management in Westchester. While she
enjoys her work in hospitality as a bartender, her aspirations lie in the vibrant entertainment and event industry world, where her creativity and spontaneous nature can truly shine. This festival holds a special place in her heart, as her cousin, Fiona Molloy, was a contestant back in 2013. Her grand-uncle Jimmy McGonegal encouraged her, who has sadly passed on, would be smiling down to see me representing the Molloys. Her Irish heritage is a significant part of who she is, with her father, James Molloy, hailing from Ardara, Donegal, and her mother, Maureen, from Ballinamuck, Longford. Growing up, she was immersed in various activities, including the tin whistle, Irish dance, and football. This passion for activity has continued into her adulthood, and she is now blessed to be playing the harp, finding
joy and connection in its music, and spending time outdoors.

Sarah Hughes is 27 years old, originally from Stewartstown, County Tyrone, and she moved to Dubai in November 2023. She sings and play the fiddle full-time, with her
partner in our two-piece band ‘Fresh as Folk’, performing in McCafferty’s Bars across
the UAE. It has been amazing to be a part of such a strong Irish community in the
UAE, especially within the trad music scene. It is just amazing to see the Irish culture thrive so far from home. She studied Law at Queen’s University Belfast, graduating in 2019, and qualified as a solicitor in 2021. I thoroughly enjoyed working as a
Solicitor, and it allowed me to develop so many skills and relationships. However, music was always my passion, so after nearly 3 years into my legal career, I took the
leap and haven’t looked back. When I’m not playing music, you’ll find her doing Pilates, running with her local run club, or deep in a podcast. She is truly honoured to have been selected to represent the UAE at this year’s Mary from Dungloe Festival.
She is so proud to bring a touch of our Irish-UAE spirit to Donegal, and cannot wait to meet the other amazing Marys, make lifelong memories, and I’m sure form
fantastic friendships along the way!
